I have to say... after reading Dr. Amber's 'rejection' post, I got a little tickled & decided to join the party! Just to bring you up to speed, there was a recent publication call for Paper Crafts Magazine that received well over 2,000 submissions! Only about 1/10th of those cards were able to make it to the magazine, so several of the girls decided to post some of their cards that didn't make the cut.
A couple of my sketches made it to the magazine & I can't wait to see what people made with them. (None of the cards I made following my own sketches actually made the cut.) Here's a picture of an original sketch I sent in. And no. I can not draw a straight line. ;)
Here's my card (based off of the sketch above). I used Lawn Fawn's Cozy Christmas set along with pieces from Lunar Lights. Looks like I've gotten a jump start on my 2011 Christmas cards! ;)
As I've mentioned before, rejection comes with the territory when you submit to magazines. I wish there was a better word for it, because I think people tend to take 'submission rejection' very personally. Sometimes it's just not what the magazine needed at that particular time. It's all good! To me, it's a great exercise to keep your creative juices flowing and to improve your art form.
Hope you all have a wonderful start to your week!
You are the second person to mention that none of the cards you created based on your own sketch were chosen. How wild is that? This was a very popular sketch and the card is SUPER cute!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely fantastic! Brilliant in fact. Cool that you got some sketches into the magazine!
ReplyDeleteI adored this sketch and had fun playing with it!! (mine didn't get picked up). I love your little stockings hanging-very cute!
ReplyDeleteSuper duper cuteness!!!
ReplyDeleteAs terrible as this sounds, it is encouraging to hear that a fabulous designer like yourself didn't make it in. Your card is super cute and I love to look at your creations. Better luck next time! :)
ReplyDeletelove this - thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteSuper card Julie - I love your advance prep for Christmas! It reminds me that I need to make a start soon myself ;)
ReplyDeleteAnd I love this sketch - thanks for the inspiration, hugs, Ruth S
Love that you shared this--it is super cute! I love your sketches--I submitted to all of them! I know I've taken the rejection pretty hard lately....it's just hard to swallow sometimes (esp. if you really liked what you submitted or spent tons of time thinking/creating). Thanks for always lifting me up:) LOOOOOOOVE visiting your blog!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute card! Who knows why some are rejected and others are chosen?
ReplyDeleteMy favorite submission (and reject) was with your sketch, Julie! Love it!
ReplyDeleteLOVE this sketch! And your card!
ReplyDeleteGuess what?! My take on your sketch got picked up! :) :) Thanks for the fabulous design! :)
