Documenting Disney

I've been collecting supplies to create a mini album to document our recent trip to Disney World & thought I'd share.  I wanted a simple system - something that I know would be easy to put together.  I knew that there was no way I would be creating dozens of layouts, so I decided to go with a "pocket scrapbooking" design.

Simple Stories just released this new collection called Say Cheese & I think it's perfect!  Since we have boys, I didn't want anything with Disney Princesses or the color pink... and, since my boys are 8 & 12, I wanted something that wasn't too juvenile, but still fun.

I thought this alpha sheet was really cute.  I love the Disney-like fonts & the variety is really awesome!

 These are the 4"x6" & 3"x4" cards that slide into the pocked page protectors.  It makes documenting so easy!

So... last night, I was researching albums & having a hard time finding exactly what I wanted.  And then, it came to me!  I ordered Studio Calico's December Daily kit & it comes with this awesome mini album:

The embossed stars are just perfect!  Of course, the binder would be perfect for my Dec Daily album, but I decided to order the Magical Handbook to use for it instead.  Now all my ducks are in a row & I can't wait to get started.

I also have some of these embellishments by Jenni Bowlin that I thought would be fun for the Disney album:

And these Two Peas exclusives are also perfect!  These stars come in several different colors.

 And this wood veneer card fits perfectly in a pocket page as well.

So... if you're like me & are wanting to document your family's vacation memories, I hope this gives you a few ideas on where to start.

Now to print the 1000 photos we took.  Sigh.... :)

Two Peas Gardeners' Digest: July Edition

Need a fun way to package up a gift card?  In this week's Finally Friday video, I show you how you can create a fun flip card that also doubles as a gift card holder.  

I'll be using some pages from one of Amy Tangerine's Daybooks.  The pages are easy to separate & you can use the remainder of the book to create a summer mini book or travel journal!

In the video, I'll show you some new ways to use washi tape. I'll also be utilizing glassine bags to create some unique packaging.

1. Basic Grey Clippings Garland: The new Clippings collection is fantastic & this is one of my favorite pieces!  The page is full of stitched banner pieces.  It's one of those things that looks even 100x's cooler in person.  :)


2.  Lisa's Truesdell's online Divide & Conquer Workshop: I just took this workshop & can't rave on it enough!  It's perfect for those who have a collection of memorabilia & photos from a trip or event & want a creative & easy way to document it all.  She gives so many great tips & her tutorials are very easy to follow.  And... for only $12, it's a steal!  I just ordered my Simple Stories album & am ready to create a mini book from our vacation this summer.


3.  Hello Forever Journaling Cards: If you haven't taken a look at the Two Peas digital shop lately, make sure to check out all of the printable journaling cards that are available.  They're perfect for Project Life & even make great focal points for cards.


4.  Whisker Graphics Envelopes:  I used a couple of these glassine envelopes in my Finally Friday video (above) & use them all the time in my PL album as well.  (They're all only $0.25 each!)  The smaller ones are the perfect size for gift cards or journaling cards & the larger ones make great card envelopes or gift packaging.


5. Crate Paper's Little Boy Blue Collection: The classic patterns & sweet colors in this collection are made for so much more than baby projects!  I have been using the paper over & over for all-occasion cards.  The colors are so cheerful & I love the primary palate of blue, red & green.

Masking Double Take

I found this cool US die cut shape in the Silhouette store & thought it would be fun to use it as a mask on one of my latest cards.  But... to get the look I was after, I had to do a masking double take.  Let me show you what I mean...

I started by masking the outer edges of the map, leaving the center open.  Then I took my entire sheet of Studio Calico state stamps & stamped onto patterned paper using navy ink.

To really make the map stand out, I placed a mask over the area that I had just stamped & sprayed silver Mister Huey ink over the entire piece.

I cut a wood frame out using my Silhouette as well.  (Did you know you can run the slim wood sheets through your die cutter?!?  It probably dulled my blade to pieces, but I just had to try it!  I've cut several things after the fact & they seem to still cut just fine.  Fingers crossed for future success.)  ;)  I didn't use a mat - just ran the wood straight through by itself with the highest blade setting.

And yes.  That is yet another wood veneer shape that I used on this project.  I told you that I couldn't quit!  The little heart was just what I needed to give the card more meaning.

Two Peas Garden Projects: May

I've had so much fun creating cards for Two Peas this month!  Here are the projects that are new to my gallery for May.  (All supplies can be found by following the links under each card.)

1.  Birthday Banner Card

I've noticed that I reach for wood veneer all the time these days!  These banners from Studio Calico are perfect to stamp on or cover in patterned paper.

2.  This Is An Adventure Card

This adorable traveller stole my heart last winter at CHA & I'm so happy to finally get to use this chipboard on some of my projects.  I used a Two Peas exclusive Studio Calico stamp for my sentiment.

3.  Better With Friends Card

This is a mix of Amy Tangerine's Sketchbook collection & Dear Lizzy's Neapolitan line.  (Love that polka dot vellum!) Of course, I had to add a bit of wood veneer.  See - I told you!  I'm obsessed!

4.  Oh Happy Day Card

I love how this card turned out!  It's a perfect anniversary card because it's not too girly to give to my hubs.  And yes - more veneer.  I am also obsessed with the bathroom people icons.  xoxo

5. Smile Card

This one was another fun card to make.  I used a big background stamp from Studio Calico & strips of washi tape.  Oh... and some wood veneer stars.

6.  Thank You {teacher} Card & Video

This is the card I made for a Finally Friday tutorial.  Make sure to watch to see how I made a cool envelope using a glassine bag.

Lawn Fawn Sneaks Day #2: Dad's Day

Welcome to day #2 of sneak peeks of Lawn Fawn's new summer releases!  Today we're featuring the new set Dad's Day.

I love the big comfy chair in this set!  Of course, the set is perfect for Father's Day, but you can also use it for several other occasions.  I thought this card would be perfect for someone recouping after a surgery... or maybe someone who's just in need of a day off!

The chair is a solid stamp, and I wanted some texture to the image - so... I stamped it in VersaMark onto yellow patterned paper & then clear embossed.  I inked the piece with brown to bring out the details & then trimmed the image.
