What I've Been Up To

I'm not sure if anyone still reads this blog anymore or not - because I've been SO bad about keeping it updated!  Yikes!  But.. if you are here, I thought I'd just check in with you and let you know what I've been up to lately.  :)

This past weekend, my husband & I got to sneak away to Lexington - kid free!  This is SO rare for us & loved every second of it!  The main reason for our little trip was to catch UK's Midnight Madness event.  My husband is originally from Kentucky and has been trying to get tickets for 3 years... and this year, he finally snagged a couple.  He's a hard-core UK basketball fan.  I could really care less about basketball, & mainly wanted to just get away for a couple days.  :)

When we first hit Lexington, we were starving & I spotted a Thai restaurant -- which is my new ultimate favorite food.  At that moment... I knew it was going to be a good trip.  ;)  (Please keep in mind that we don't get out much & I get pretty excited about the little things.)

I was really excited to see that the hotel I reserved wasn't in the ghetto.  It was one of the last places available with all of the events going on in the city that weekend... and I was a little nervous.  But... it turned out to be in a really great part of town.  We were surrounded by fun shops & restaurants... and then... something truly miraculous happened.  I did a quick Google search for nearby scrapbooking stores (I figured I deserved it since I was going to sit and watch basketball all night) -- and discovered that there was an awesome 5000 square ft. store only a few minutes from our hotel.  Score!

Right across the street from our hotel was a Starbucks.  Coffee is my passion.  ;)  So... we go in to check it out and ended up getting 2 free toffee mocha frappes!  My luck just kept getting better & better.

So.. that night, we went to UK to watch the first practice of the season.  It was insane.  I've never seen so many crazy fans (22,000!)... all gathered together to watch a practice.  But, I ended up having such a good time.  The UK cheerleaders are so amazing!  The whole night was just fun and entertaining.

So.. the next day, we decided to go to Keeneland and watch our very first horse race.  Someone told us we had to check it out... and I'm SO glad we did!  I couldn't believe how many people were there.  It was crazy!  I decided to try to figure out how to bet on a horse race.  I thought it would make the event a little more exciting & I wanted the full experience.  ;)  So... I bet on a horse called Vicarious Girl.  I just liked the name & it felt lucky.  My husband rolled his eyes and laughed at me for picking a horse by it's name... but it wasn't too much later & I had him eating his words.  As the horses were getting close to the finish line, I looked over at my husband with wide eyes and said, "Umm.... I think that's my horse in the lead!?!".  And... sure enough, Vicarious Girl was the winner!  I only bet $2, so I didn't leave a millionaire, but I did get a good laugh out of it.

So... that's my weekend in a nutshell.  I was up way too late last night (or was it early?) working on some publication work.  Crossing my pinkie toes on that one!  I really want to try to keep things updated better here on the blog... so hopefully you'll be seeing more posts from me.  I've been creating like a mad woman, but I just haven't had time to share it yet.  I also have several projects at Splitcoast stampers for October's Dirty Dozen release.  If you're a SCS member, I'd love to have you check them out.  :)  Sorry for the novel.  I'm just sleep deprived and chatty... and delirious.  :)  And... if you ARE here reading this, thank you so much!  I really appreciate all of my blog buddies!  You're the best!  :)

  6. This is the best post in forever! I love pictures and small glimpes into personal lives!
Your DH is from KY? I lived there for almost 5 years (went to Berea College about 45 minutes south of Lexington). And Thai is my second favorite cuisine of all time! (Indian still tops the list.)
It sounds like you had a great trip and I loved the photos! You look about 22 in them Julie? Do you ever age?!
And as for luck, well it seems to follow you! Love that your horse won and I would totally have picked it by the name too. It's a girl thing.
