Hey guys! I just thought I'd give you an update on how the e-mealz plan has been working out. (I originally posted about it HERE) I've been doing this for about 2 weeks now and so far am really happy.
First of all... my grocery trip was so quick and easy! And... I had my preschooler with me and we zipped through the isles. For those of you with young children... I'm sure you can understand how awesome of a feeling that is! ;) I ended up shopping for 2 weeks of groceries instead of one & spent $135. This included staples (like milk, bread, cereal, Oreos) as well as the items listed on the e-mealz plan. Tomorrow marks the end of week 2 and we still have groceries left! I only had to hit the grocery once this week to stock back up on milk & bread. Usually, I can easily spend $200 at one store and then $80-$90 again later in the week. Not pretty. So, I know I've saved a LOT of money.
The meals are all designed to be SUPER simple. If you're a seasoned chef, you're probably not going to be a big fan of this program. Most of my meals have been prepared and cooked in less than 1 hour. The instructions are simple too. The recipes all seem to be a small paragraph in length or less. I told my husband that if I died tomorrow, he could easily print out these menus and feed the family on his own. :) (He claims he can only cook Beanie Weenies... so this is saying a lot for him.) But... the meals seem to be a nice variety & we've tried things that I've never thought of before. We've had Cajun shrimp over rice, a broccoli cheese quiche, lasagna, soup, burgers, pork chops... plus several other things. My kids are a little picky, so some of the things were not well received (ie: quiche)... so I'm glad I bought some back up food for them on those nights. My life has been insanely busy lately, so having an organized system to feed the hungry has been a life saver. :)
If you guys have any questions, just shoot me a comment. I'll be back late tonight with a crafty post!
I love the idea of this... what about for just a family of two? Do you think it would still be worth is?
ReplyDeleteJust checked this site out based on your recommendation -- definitely seems like something I need to try. Carter really loves eating dinner at the table, so I'm trying to do better. This could help me stay organized and not get overwhelmed to the point where all I want to do is heat up frozen pizza or zap something in the microwave! Hope you're doing well, sweet friend. :)
ReplyDeletePS -- you continue to do awesome, lovely work. Unity is soooo lucky to have you!!!
