How Distressing!

Happy Monday! Every Monday, the designers at Cornish Heritage Farms post projects from the weekly challenge. This week our challenge was to use Tim Holtz Distress Inks on a project. I am a HUGE fan of these inks! I love how rich the colors are and love finding out new ways to incorporate them in my projects.

Today I wanted to show you how easy it is to create Primitive home decor pieces by using Distress Inks! I love antiques and the patina that comes with age. But... you don't have to wait a hundred years to get a piece you love!

I found these great 1 1/2" wooden blocks by the bag at Hobby Lobby (in the unfinished wood section). Emily Giovanni first turned me onto these blocks when she created custom baby gifts or holiday decor, but I love using them for other projects as well.

I covered each side of my blocks with squares of printed paper or plain cream pieces. The letters "HOME" are rub-ons - which makes this project quick and easy. (Actually, I finished this piece in about 35 minutes this morning because I was running late for the challenge!) LOL!

Once the glue was dry, I dropped a few droplets of Tea Dye Distress ink on a sponge and inked the edges of one side of the block. Then, using a second, DRY sponge, I rubbed over the ink until I achieved the patina that I was looking for.

One of the beauties of this ink is that it stays wet longer than ordinary inks, allowing you to "move" the ink around. This feature also allows you to emboss your projects!

If you like primitives, you have GOT to check out the set in it's entirety! I was so excited when I saw this set for the first time! (and still am loving it just as much!!!)
