This is a card I made for the PaperCrafts March Gallery Contest (using buttons on your project). Liz from Cornish Heritage Farms sent me some of the CUTEST stamps from their new line - Tom Allen's Friendly Kritters.
To be honest, these detailed, intricate images use to really scare me. I still haven't tried my hand at the Thomas Kinkade line. It just looked so intimidating! But, to my amazement... I found that these images are SO easy and FUN to add color to! The shading of the stamped image honestly does all of the work for you! I used my Copics and watched the black & white image come to life. It does take extra time... but it's so therapeutic! I'm going to get some Kinkade images the next time I order. I've become a convert! :)
If you look closely, you'll see a tiny mouse sneaking around the basket. (click image to enlarge) I thought this sentiment worked perfectly with the image! LOL! This is one of a GAZILLION sentiments that comes in the soon-to-be-released set, Script Essential Expressions... part of the Mona Lisa Moments line by CHF! Seriously -- this set has a sentiment for every occasion! I LOVE it!
The theme of this card centers around fabric. (yarn in the stamped image, the zigzag stitching, the houndstooth "fabric" background, and of course the buttons!)

- Copic Markers
- Foof-a-La buttons
- brown embroidery floss
* to make background:
- Stamp Houndstooth image with Terra Cotta ink onto white textured Prismatic CS.
- Sponge Brushed Corduroy ink over entire piece.
- Add additional ink to edges.
So... the moral of this post is: Try Something That Scares You! You might end up falling in love!

ReplyDeleteThis looks so nice! I too have always steered clear of these kinds of images because they look to difficult to color and I didn't think I would like the way they would turn out. But you have convinced me that they're worth giving a try! Mary P.

Darling! I love your use of buttons with the knitting/sewing theme and your use of actual yarn on the card. Your coloring is so pretty; bring on the Kinkades!
ReplyDeleteLike I've said before...you always inspire me to try something I am afraid of!!! I have one Kinkade stamp and Julia Stainton has given me the courage to use it with one color ink and work from there....When I saw this particular kitten stamp I thought (stepping backwards) Love it, BUT no way will I be able to manage this!! You did such a great job..I MIGHT have to get up the courage to try one soon.
